Mareile Höppner uses Instagram to speak out against the hate comments she has recently received – all of them from men criticizing her appearance. Behind anonymous profiles, of course, they are protected by the vastness of the internet. But the presenter is fighting back and appealing to her followers!
It all started with an Instagram story that Mareile Höppner posted about herself. She received a reaction from a male user, which she then made public. “You’re also getting older. It’s already visible on you, so just keep it low-key,” the message read. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon, as other posts by the presenter were commented on in a similar way. One comment says: “Gradually, everything begins to sag. That’s totally natural,” and another: “Ah, the cruel force of gravity, but that’s what bras are for.”
Mareile Höppner defends herself against hate comments
In a separate Instagram post, Mareile Höppner takes up the topic again and defends herself against the commentators, all of whom are male.
She directs a pointed message to a user named Thomas: “To the writer Thomas, though it’s actually irrelevant, as it essentially applies to every Thomas and everyone else as well. And now we must all be courageous: we are all aging. Even those who haven’t realized it yet. Sorry, I’m aware you might not have noticed. And in the best case, it sometimes shows on our faces.”
Mareile Höppner: “Let’s grow older with acceptance”
The presenter recognizes that the problem lies much deeper and has to do with the perfect world that social networks make us believe. “Regrettably, our society now faces a significant issue with aging. It doesn’t fit into the world of filters and airbrushing.” She, therefore, appeals: “Let’s grow older with acceptance. You and I can’t avoid it. But you’re certainly welcome to witness it here. It’s not a bad thing.”

“I’ve never felt as good as I do today”
The 47-year-old presents herself on Instagram as self-confident, full of joie de vivre, and wearing outfits that are sometimes a little more figure-hugging. And she intends to keep doing so, despite the occasional negative remarks.
She continues: “I’ve never felt as good as I do today. So brave and free and that’s why I wear what I want. That’s also part of freedom when you get older. Bearing this in mind, I wish for us all to embrace our wrinkles and the increasing number of candles on our cakes – because, if there’s any doubt, they signify that we’re living!”
