6 Techniques for tying your scarf correctly

1. The bow

To tie a bow, take your scarf at the midpoint and tie a loose knot. Place this at the level of your larynx and wrap the scarf around your neck so that the ends hang forward again. Now reach through the knot and pull the two ends through one after the other. To make this easier, you can loosen the knot slightly at the sides beforehand.

2. The waterfall

The waterfall tying technique is best suited to colorful, patterned scarves on plain-colored clothing, as you can show a lot of the scarf here. Start by wrapping the scarf once around your neck so that both ends are the same length. Then take the right end and pass it under the scarf so that you can fasten it as far back on your neck as possible. The best way to do this is to pin the end or wrap it around the piece of scarf. Now repeat this process with the left side. Your scarf will now be clearly visible dangling over your chest, making it the eye-catcher of the look.

3. The braid

Braiding is a simple but very effective method. To do this, double the scarf around your neck and pull the ends through the loop, as in the classic version. Now twist the loop around its own axis to create a new loop and pull the ends through again. Repeat this until the whole scarf is braided.

4. The loop

The classic technique for tying a scarf – but with a little twist for better support! Place the scarf on your shoulders so that one side is longer than the other. Wrap the long side once around your neck. Then reach through the resulting loop and pull the shorter end through. This makes the end of the scarf a little more secure and less likely to slip off your neck.

5. The knot

For the coziest wrapping technique, begin by draping the scarf over your shoulders. Again, don’t center it completely so that one end is longer than the other. Place the longer side under the short one and wrap it around your neck. Now, the end of the shorter side will drape across your chest while the end of the longer side extends behind you. Now comes the most complicated part: grab the scarf on your neck with one hand on the side with the shorter end. The other hand grabs the end above your shoulder and places it over the short side. Then simply pull it through the loop you’ve created, and your knot is complete! Depending on how you turn the scarf now, you can wear the knot anywhere you like.

6. The zig-zag look

For this look, too, place the scarf so that the longer side is around your shoulders and wrap the long end around your neck once. From the outside, reach into the loop and grasp the opposite side of the scarf. Pull it through the loop, stopping short to form a new loop. Reach in here too and pull the shorter end through – and you have a cool zig-zag look.
