Straw bags come in versatile styles, including practical shopper bags for daily errands, elegant handbags for evening outings, and spacious beach bags for vacations. To help you extend the life of your cherished summer accessory, STYLEBOOK offers essential tips for properly cleaning and maintaining your straw bag.
Overview
Cleaning straw bags and removing crumbs and dust
As the woven bags are made of natural materials, you should be careful when cleaning a straw bag. First of all, you should empty the bag and remove coarse crumbs and dirt by shaking the bag upside down. Now remove the vacuum cleaner attachment and clean the straw bag using only the hose on medium suction power. This will remove any crumbs, fluff, and sand hiding in the corners and grooves of the bag.
Gently clean your straw bag with water
The outside of a straw bag should be cleaned with a little bit of water, a soft cloth, and some washing-up liquid. Mix lukewarm water with a few drops of washing-up liquid. Be careful not to let the cloth get too wet, but wring it out well before using it on the natural material. Now, gently wipe the surface of the straw bag. When cleaning, the bag should not come into contact with too much water; otherwise, the material could swell. For stubborn dirt or stains, you can use a clean toothbrush to gently wipe away the stains.
Allow the bag to dry thoroughly
The cleaned straw bag should be left to air dry afterward. To prevent the bag from becoming unattractively deformed during drying, you can stuff it with plenty of old newspaper beforehand. You should also wait until the bag is completely dry before using it again or storing it in the cupboard.
Bag organizer
This tip doesn’t just apply to straw bags but is suitable for any type of bag. Bag organizers serve several purposes at once. Firstly, they protect the inside of the bag from dirt. Bags maintain their form while being carried, and organizers can help you keep the contents neatly arranged. This is particularly useful for large shoppers or beach bags.

You should avoid this at all costs
If the straw bag is wet, you should definitely avoid drying it in direct sunlight. It could become porous, and the material could break. You should also avoid storing a basket bag incorrectly. To make sure you have something of your favorite bag for the next season, you should make sure you store it correctly. Flat models should be stored either hanging or lying flat. Bellied models should be stuffed with towels, cushions, or clothes and placed upright in the wardrobe. If your purchase included a dust bag, use it for storage; alternatively, a pillowcase can serve as a makeshift protector.
