Princess Sofia wore a dress with a white gradient at the wedding of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett – actually a no-go! Was this a mishap or a well-thought-out move?
The wedding of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett took place at the weekend. Many famous royals were among the guests. Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip were also present at the royal show. At the time, nobody knew what a sweet secret the princess was keeping. Perhaps that’s why Princess Sofia opted for this very special dress.
Princess Sofia arrived in a white and orange dress
After Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and the American shaman Durek Verrett’s wedding was postponed, they celebrated a lavish party last weekend. There were strict rules for the royal and non-royal guests beforehand. Märtha Louise stipulated that guests should not wear white, black, pink, or gold at the ceremony. For the gentlemen, she wanted something classic, such as a tailcoat.
Prince Carl Philip of Sweden chose a black suit with a black bow tie and thus seemed to have adhered to the dress code. His wife Princess Sofia, on the other hand, chose a floor-length dress by designer Lilli Jahilo with a color gradient: from a rich orange to a bright white! She paired it with chunky Gianvito Rossi platform heels and a lime green clutch by Susan Szatmáry.
Discussions about Princess Sofia’s shoes and dress
Princess Sofia’s gradient dress, in particular, caused a lot of discussion online. After all, it is common knowledge that the color white is reserved for the bride at weddings. Even more so when it is requested in advance that no white be worn. The Royal Fashion Police website, for example, reads: “White? I heard that wasn’t allowed?”
Others are more surprised by Princess Sofia’s choice of shoes than her dress. “The shoes should be burned” or even: “The dress is okay, not my favorite look of hers, but what happened to her stripper platform heels?”

A deliberate dress choice at the wedding?
Two days after Märtha Louise’s wedding, the Swedish royal family announced a happy message on Instagram: “DD. KK. HH. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have the great pleasure of announcing that the Princess is expecting the couple’s fourth child.” The couple’s offspring is due to be born in February 2025, and the Princess is currently doing well. According to the official post, she will continue to attend upcoming appointments in the fall.
With the knowledge of her fourth pregnancy, Sofia’s choice of dress could have been a conscious decision. The wide, fluttering skirt of the Lilli-Jahilo dress skilfully hugged her midriff so that no bulge was visible at Märtha Louise’s wedding. In this way, she was able to ensure that only the radiant bride was in the spotlight and there was no whispering about a baby bump.
