Dreary weather, dreary outfit? Not for Queen Mary of Denmark. King Frederik’s wife appeared at the Christmas church service in a bright coat and velvet boots.
The last few months have been overshadowed by rumors of King Frederik’s alleged affair. Queen Mary of Denmark appeared extremely professional in public in order not to fuel the rumors any further. This was reflected visually at the Christmas church service in a colorful and bold outfit.
Queen Mary Dazzles in Vibrant Outfit
Adhering to long-standing Christmas traditions, the Danish royal family’s agenda included the annual church service at Aarhus Cathedral. While many women choose festive hues like red, burgundy, or pine green for their holiday ensembles, Queen Mary of Denmark boldly diverged with a striking orange. She chose an eye-catching look in the signal color orange!
To complement the long, classically tailored coat with a tie belt, the Queen selected light gray boots with a sumptuous velvet finish. She picked up the grey color again with her turtleneck sweater, which she wore under the coat.
The Outfit Details of Queen Mary
The coat is a Max Mara model, costing around 725 euros. Queen Mary has often worn this coat to events in recent weeks, e.g., in October at the 750th anniversary celebrations of the town of Holstebro. She teamed it with boots by Gianvito Rossi (model “Hansen”), which had a velvet look, a wide shaft, and a mid-height heel.
To balance the outfit’s vibrancy, Mary chose understated accessories, ensuring the ensemble didn’t appear overdone. The standout accessory was her clutch. A bag frequently spotted with the 52-year-old monarch. The model is “Alphabet Scallop Patchwork” by the fashion house Chloé.

Distance at the Church Service
In addition to Queen Mary’s colorful outfit, attentive observers noticed something else. Just a year ago, Mary and King Frederik appeared as a close-knit unit at the Christmas church service. They entered the cathedral hand in hand, thus defying the affair rumors that had emerged shortly before.
This year, a different picture emerged. Upon arrival and departure from the service, Mary and Frederik maintained a noticeable distance between them. King Frederik walked in front while Mary entered the church with her children, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine at her side.
