Everyone knows their clothing and shoe size, but what about their ring size? It turns out it’s not difficult to figure out, even without professional help. STYLEBOOK shares two tricks to easily determine your ring size on your own.
Who hasn’t stumbled over ring sizes while shopping for jewelry online and wondered: What size do I actually have, and how do I measure it? No worries! You can easily determine your ring size.
Overview
Measure Ring Size with Paper or String
You can easily measure your ring size with paper, scissors, and a ruler. First, wrap a strip of paper (ideally 5 mm wide) around your finger, ensuring it slides comfortably over the knuckle. Mark the spot where the paper encircles your finger, then cut it at that point. Lay the cut strip along a ruler, read the measurement, and you have your size.
Example: 5.8 cm (58 mm) corresponds to ring size 58. If you measure exactly five centimeters with the paper strip, your ring size is 50. This method works just as well with string, although string is often very narrow and can distort the result. The base of the finger, where the ring sits, is usually thinner than the knuckle, so the paper method provides a more reliable result.
Determine Ring Size with an Existing Ring
The simplest way to find your size is to use a ring that already fits as a reference. The formula is: Place the ring on a ruler and multiply the diameter by 3.14. The result is the ring circumference, or the ring size. For example, if the ring has an inner diameter of 16 mm, multiply 16 by 3.14. This gives an inner circumference of 50.24 mm, which rounds to a size 50.

Two Simple Tricks to Measure Ring Size
Tips for Optimal Measurement
Throughout the day, in warmer temperatures, or during pregnancy, fingers often swell and increase in circumference. Therefore, it’s best to measure your ring size in the evening and/or on warmer days. Also, don’t overlook that the thickness of fingers on the left hand can differ significantly from those on the right hand. And: Ring size changes with age, so regular checks can prevent incorrect purchases.
