Söder’s daughter Gloria-Sophie Burkandt has already fallen into the Photoshop trap twice in the past. She used filters to optimize her photos almost beyond recognition and received a lot of criticism as a result. But that doesn’t seem to have stopped the model from continuing to play with the Photoshop levers.
Oops… she did it again! Oktoberfest in Munich is bustling with excitement, and true to her Bavarian roots, Gloria-Sophie Burkandt, daughter of Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder, is in attendance. In new photos, she poses with Boris Becker’s daughter, Anna Ermakova, and shared a photo of it on social media.
Oktoberfest photo faux pas involving Söder’s daughter
In a slideshow on Instagram, she posted some impressions of her Oktoberfest visit, including a photo with Anna Ermakova (in which she had cut Anna out, however). As if that wasn’t enough, an optimizing filter was, of course, also used again. With a more defined face, enhanced makeup, and a slimmer silhouette – Gloria has showcased her top-notch Photoshop skills.
It’s no longer a secret that the images on Gloria’s Instagram profile don’t reflect reality. Various photo agencies have released the original photos from her Oktoberfest visit, revealing a starkly different portrayal of the Söder daughter.
Not a one-time occurrence
Gloria has since deleted the slideshow, including the cheating photo from the Oktoberfest, but old Photoshop fails from the recent past can still be found on her Instagram account!
A few weeks ago, Gloria-Sophie Burkandt and her father attended the opening of the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. The Söder daughter posted a photo of this on Instagram, and attentive observers immediately noticed something.
In the photo, Markus Söder is laughing heartily, while Gloria-Sophie’s side profile is clearly visible: pointed chin and accentuated jawline. The photo was taken by a well-known photo agency, but it appears that Söder’s daughter has edited the photo properly. This is because, in the original, her chin was less pointed, her jawline was not as pronounced, and her upper arm looked differently shaped. And her hair also appears to be shorter.
The original for comparison:
Not the first Photoshop fail
These clear Photoshop blunders are evident across Gloria’s Instagram account. In December 2023, she attended the “Ein Herz für Kinder” event in Berlin together with her father. Afterward, they both posted photos of the event independently of each other. Instagram users noticed one detail about the Söder daughter.
Unlike Gloria-Sophie, Markus Söder does not appear to have used a filter on the photo he posted of the gala. In Gloria’s photo, her face looks more angular and contoured, and her skin is evener. Clearly, the photo has been retouched – a common practice that is by no means blameworthy.
Instagram users weigh in on Söder’s daughter
Some Instagram users also noticed this in the comments, puzzled over Markus Söder’s post. “I see two different people,” wrote one, and another agreed: “Crass, would never recognize her here, or the other way around on her account.” So that the Photoshop mishap wouldn’t have been noticed, another user advised: “It should have been discussed beforehand.”

How Gloria-Sophie reacted to the photo mishap
Preferring to avoid a debate over her photo, Gloria-Sophie Burkandt, Söder’s daughter, preemptively disabled the comment feature on her post. However, two days after the event, she took to Instagram to speak out again in person. “The media that criticized my photos were actually correct; I did edit some of my pictures from the red carpet.” But it’s not just from the red carpet – many other posts on her Instagram account also raise the question of how much of what we see there is real.
Markus Söder’s daughter also noted that the editing of photos in the media has been commonplace for years and continued: “It’s disheartening that in my country, Germany, individuals like models, actors, singers, and influencers face undue scrutiny as every detail of their lives is dissected. Criticism is always present, and I share my thoughts. (…) It’s unfortunate that people with negative emotions such as jealousy and lies often dominate in criticism, whether it’s through fabricated stories or emphasizing unimportant details to damage reputations. We have other problems in this world right now than talking about an edited photo.” Gloria-Sophie deleted the photo from “Gala” shortly afterward.
