Female empowerment in Hollywood? It’s all a facade, says Sydney Sweeney. The actress refers to an incident in April 2024 in which she was attacked by a female producer for no reason. Read what happened and what the 27-year-old has to say about it now below.
After centuries of oppression and the belittled status of women in real life as well as in movies and television, something actually seemed to change in recent years. Women support each other instead of booting each other out, leading the way together because they know that together, we are stronger. But according to actress Sydney Sweeney, it’s all just for show.
Overview
Sydney Sweeney refers to an incident in April 2024
In an interview with Vanity Fair, she was asked about an incident that took place in April 2024. At the time, Carol Baum – an 81-year-old, highly respected Hollywood producer, including of the Buffy film – spoke out clearly against Sydney Sweeney and her film Where the Lie Falls. The latter was “unwatchable,” she said. She asked her students at the USC School of Cinematic Arts about Sweeney: “Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty; she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”
A spokesperson for the actress responded to this completely unnecessary statement shortly afterward: “How sad that a woman who is in a position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman.” The issue also seems to resonate with Sydney Sweeney.
Sydney Sweeney: “It’s very disheartening”
Asked why she thinks female performers, in particular, are discredited once they’re at the height of their careers, Sweeney replied: “It’s very disheartening to see women dragging other women down, especially when women who are successful in other areas of the industry see younger talent working hard – hoping to achieve whatever dreams they may have – and then try to bash and discredit any work they’ve done.”
She continues, “This whole industry, all people say is, ‘Women empower other women.’ None of that is happening. It’s all fake and a facade for all the other things they say behind everyone’s back.”

Actress also sees a reason for behavior
She also sees a reason for this behavior. “There are so many studies and different opinions for the reason behind it. I’ve been reading this all my life. We’ve been brought up – and this is a generational problem – to believe that only one woman can be on top. There is one woman who gets the man. There’s one woman who can be everything. So the others feel like they have to fight each other or knock that one woman down instead of saying ‘let’s all lift each other up’.”
Sydney Sweeney is still finding her way, expressing, “I’m just trying my best here. Why am I being attacked?”
