Extreme weather conditions, frequent hand washing, and other factors promote dry and even cracked hands. A rich hand cream can prevent this. Applying the right cream also plays an important role in keeping hands velvety and soft.
Open the tube, put a dollop of hand cream on your hands, and rub it in! Applying hand cream sounds simple at first. But unfortunately, it’s not as simple as it sounds. STYLEBOOK tells you how to apply hand cream correctly to get the best results.
Overview
Applying hand cream – but the right way
Winter is approaching, and with it, the hand cream season. Hand cream should be massaged into the skin well, and care should be taken to ensure that all areas get enough product, e.g., between the fingers. The best place to start is on the back of the hand, advises Birgit Huber from the Body Care and Detergent Industry Association. “Spread the cream in a circular motion from back of hand to back of hand,” explains the cosmetics expert.
“Then it’s the fingers’ turn – just as if you were putting on a glove.” Fingernails and cuticles should also be considered to keep them supple. “Finally, take care of the palms and forearms.”
Apply hand cream, but which is the right one?
If you look around the drugstore, you will see a large shelf with countless different hand creams. But which one is the right one? It all depends on your needs: if you do a lot of housework or work with your hands, then a particularly rich cream that is also quickly absorbed is ideal.
Do you have sensitive skin? Then you should definitely look for a hand cream that is not perfumed and does not contain any colorants. It is best to seek advice at the pharmacy or opt for natural cosmetics.

Exfoliation helps with dry hands
Especially in the cold months, your hands need a lot of care, and you should keep at it and not forget to apply cream.
If your hands remain rough despite your best efforts, a hand scrub can help to remove dead skin cells. In addition to applying hand cream, the expert recommends a scrub that removes dead skin cells. “Finally, apply a thick layer of cream to your hands and put on cotton gloves or disposable gloves for a short time,” explains Huber. “You will be rewarded with velvety soft hands.”
